May 30, 2009 – 11:17 pm

Do you know how to learn guitar chords? Today there is no need to pay an expensive guitar teacher when you have a great teacher online. There are many great online guitar courses that you can take from your home when you want if you have access to

- a guitar (obvious)
- a computer with online connection.

Learning the guitar is not so different from learning to walk. Most children are learning to crawl before they can rise up on their legs and do their first trembling steps in an upright position. In guitar playing, learning the chords is probably the most important since every piece of guitar music is build on these chords. It goes without saying that chords will be the first you have to master. Fortunately, learning to play guitar chords is easier than you might think, given that you get good instruction and are practicing well. There are many guitar courses on the internet, some of them for free. If you really want to learn guitar you should purchase a complete course from one of the top five guitar course providers in the internet.  You also need a time schedule of the progression of the lessons make sure you follow it. Allow yourself enough time for practicing especially as a newbie but you also need to pay attention to the way you practice, thus make sure you utilize your practice hours as good as possible.

Finding a Site

As mentioned above there are loads of resources on the internet showing you how to learn guitar chords. What you must do is find a course or website that will give you what you need.  Look for guitar e-learning sites that utilize multimedia such as images, audios, videos in addition to the written word.  For learning to play an instrument, media files are a must. An image or a video can show you exactly the hand motions and finger positions so there’s no doubt about how to play it. Reading where to place your fingers during a song can for some be a bit confusing which can turn into bad practice habits. Also look for sites that contain positive user feedback and user forums where students can ask questions and get answers from others. That might be very helpful for you during the course.

Practice Well

You cannot expect to go online, learn a few chords and then become a master guitar player. This is not the way guitar playing works. Remember the metaphor about children who learn to walk that I mentioned above. Learning to walk is all about putting yourself into the right position to prepare your legs to start walking. Learning guitar is very similar; the right way to practice makes perfect. Your job is to take what you learn on the internet and apply your knowledge on the guitar. Hopefully you will know more about how to learn guitar chords.

Want To Learn The Guitar Fast? Then Develop A Good Practice Routine

May 20, 2009 – 11:12 am

The easiest and fastest way to learn the guitar is to develop a good practice routine and stick to it. I have listed a few important elements among several others that a good practice routine should contain.

Work out a regular practice schedule and follow it. You need to put the same amount of practice time into each day you practice and if possible practice at the same time every day, five days or more a week.

Make a habit of actively listening to music every day. The more music that you are putting into your ears, the better musician you will become. With an almost unlimited number of recordings, pick a couple of great guitarists and use them as a source of inspiration as well as learning from them. Try to analyze what they have to do to make the sound you hear and write down a list of things they are doing that you too want to learn.  It will boost your motivation and your development toward guitar mastership. And it’s fun too.

Believe in yourself and your potential as a guitarist.  Work out and implement a good practice routine as described above. This will speed up your learning curve and you are mastering the various aspects of guitar playing accordingly. The better you play the more self confident you will become and the better you will play. It’s a positive circle. Also surround yourself with supportive people and steer away from people who impact you in a negative way.

If You Wish You Could Play Guitar, Learn To Play It

May 7, 2009 – 10:20 pm

If you, like many others don’t play but have a guitar, learn to play it. Many people have an instrument hidden in their homes that they never use. Below are some steps you can follow if you want to learn to play the guitar.

1. If you don’t have a guitar already then you’ll need to consider buying one or even borrowing one.  You can find a good acoustic guitar that will cost you from $75 to $200.

A more professional model will cost from $250 and up.  There are lots of acoustic guitar brands and models and I recommend that you go to your local music store and pick a guitar that fit your preferences as well as your budget.

2. Learn to play the basic or so called ‘open chords’ like C, G, A and D. As soon as you have learned the basic chords you will be able to play hundred of songs. If you’re wondering where to start in order to learn the basics, there are a few options, like for example

- purchase a guitar course book for the beginner’s level
- find a teacher
- find a guitar e-learning beginner program

3. Learn to read tablature aka guitar tabs.

A guitar tab is a drawing of the guitar neck marked with small circles showing where to place your fingers to play a specific chord. As soon as the song needs to change the chord, a new tab with the new chord is displayed. Go to the internet and search for guitar tablature and you will find tablature for thousands of songs many of them for free.

4. The next step is learning to play barre chords. These are chord "shapes" that can be moved up and down the guitar neck. To learn barre chords it’s smart to

- buy a guitar book with these chords
- practice by playing these shapes and moving them up and down the neck.
- buy printed guitar song books with tabs or download them from the internet

In many cases, Guitar tabs will also include a barre chord diagram.

5. "Practice Makes Perfect" is an old saying. I say "What kind of practice?" If you have a guitar, learn to play it, but if you practice wrong playing you will become perfect in playing wrong, and that is not what you want. Especially as a beginner, You’ll need to do give much time and patience to practicing.

Do it right from the beginning and never get into the habit of repeating mistakes. It will take much longer time to learn it than necessary.

A famous musician once said that fast progress is dependent on slow practice.  Don’t just start to play, read the notes or tabs and listen to the recorded song, Use a little time to think before you play.  A good recording of the piece should be the standard you can use to compare your own progress with.

6. Learn to finger pick. This is a very common technique in very many songs and pieces for guitar so you need to practice this as well. Mastering finger picking takes time. By using the method of practicing described above you’ll master it incredibly fast.

If you, after reading this are still  interested and you have a guitar, learn to play it.   If you don’t have why don’t you buy one?

Learning Guitar on the internet might be a great option for you, especially if you are among those who have a guitar in their home that they never use. If you have access to or are the owner of a guitar, learn to Play it! It’s fun and easier than you might think.

The Beginner’s Guide to Learn Basic Guitar

February 1, 2009 – 9:42 pm

So, you wanna learn to play guitar.  To learn basic guitar, you may want to stay away from practicing scales and chords since it’s too daunting and sleep-inducing. Most people would want to just learn songs as if they can play from ear. Unless you have the kind of musical gift Mozart had, you can never learn how to play the guitar unless you practice the chords until it becomes natural to you.

It is all about muscle memory and familiarity in terms of becoming proficient with any musical instrument, including the guitar. Chords are the very foundation of solid guitar playing, so you better brush up on those chords if you ever want to actually make music like how Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughan, B.B. King, and many other great guitarists did. They never gave up on how to learn basic guitar, and so shouldn’t you.

Getting Manual Instruction

The most effective way to learn basic guitar is to get instruction from a good guitar teacher. Having one teach you to learn basic guitar will force you to take lessons on a regular scheduled basis. No matter how mentally tough and determined you are, it is still best to have someone else force you to actually practice regularly. It’s just like a trainer would make you go to the gym, no matter how sore you are.

Also, you will get feedback on how well you’re progressing and how you can correct your mistakes. Since you still need chords despite whatever music you want to perform, you will need the appropriate guitar teacher who can show you the ropes on how to learn basic guitar. That teacher will make sure that you do it right and not just slack off. If there ever is a problem, that teacher will help you fix it in the most efficient way possible. That teacher will not let you cheat or fool yourself into thinking that you’re already good enough, even if you actually aren’t.

Practice Regularly

Besides a good instructor, practicing is definitely crucial in playing any sort of musical instrument. Despite having a teacher and taking classes, you can’t improve without regular practice. Practice is to be done outside at your own discretion, seeking to improve upon good points and self-correct bad ones. At least an hour of practice will help you improve in tremendous fashion. Famous guitar players have been reported to practice for long hours on their own due to their dedication to the instrument. If you are dedicated to the guitar as well, you should follow their example and practice as much as you can. This is the best way to learn basic guitar.
